Hello. Just found you, and think it's a great idea. Very happy to be here. Hope this isn't too easy or hard.

Looks kind of Badlands-ish, so, South Dakota? Maybe?

Good guess. Not right, but I can totally see where you're coming from.

I second the badlands-ish-ness

so Arizona or Australia is what came to mind.

Again, if I hadn't known where I took this, I would have found those guesses perfectly reasonable. Neither of the two, though. It's actually a pretty small area where these views are common; if you drive for a few hours from there (and a lot of the roads are not great), the terrain will look a bit different.

One of your two guesses, by the way, while incorrect, happens to be geographically reasonably close. Since the guesses aren't very precise, though (countries and states are pretty big), that's not telling you all that much. :-)

does the fact that the park has kangaroo rats help get me some points re: my guess of Australia?

lol..interesting. I didn't know of this park before, and it sounds like a place I would love to see. Deserts fascinate me.

Thanks for the picture. =)

If only i'd seen this post sooner. I'd recognize Joshua Tree in a heartbeat.

Why were you in JTree? Are you a climber?

If you are, what's this particular rock called? I can't really tell its size from the picture, but it looks like something I'd love to boulder.

That rock isn't called anything in particular—if every rock like that were called something, there would be far too many names in JTree to keep track of—but it's right by Sheep's Pass, and right next to the road. Even if you miss it, you'll find something else just like it.

Actually, JTree was my first stop in a long camping trip through the Mojave desert. I'm more of an "explorer" in general than anything in particular, but I did climb those rocks. :-)
